Last week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Keri Revens. She is the Director of Research and Evaluation here at Camino Community Center. Her latest research study was able to evaluate the needs of Charlotte’s Latino community based on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In our conversation, we touched upon the importance of this study, the methods used to employ it, and what National Women’s History Month means to her. I also got to learn more about Dr. Revens, her professional journey, and her dedication to community outreach.

The summer heat didn’t keep families away from our 16th annual backpack giveaway! 600 children left with smiles on their faces and backpacks full of supplies to help them start the school year off on the right foot. Our primary care clinic, Camino Clinic, also administered 18 physicals with assistance from our partners at Atrium Health.

Mack’s Automotive of Concord was also at the event, and they hosted an antique car show throughout the day. Classic rock…

For the first time in over 60 years, the Cuban people have taken to the streets to protest deteriorating economic conditions and a lack of personal freedom. These demonstrations began on July 11 in the city of San Antonio de Los Banos. Unfortunately, they have shown no signs of letting up. As of writing this post, protests have occurred in over 40 different cities and towns, including the capital of Havana. The Cuban government has been quick to try and crackdown on this movement by throwing many protestors in prison, and by cutting…

Bubbles, grilled chicken, and a petting zoo, oh my! These were just a few of our favorite things that we featured at our second Takin’ it to the Streets event. We served close to 270 people from the Kingswood neighborhood, handed out over 250 hot meals, and sent families home with an additional box of food. People left with smiles on their faces and love in their hearts. Our mobile clinic was present at the event, and we distributed COVID-19 vaccine shots to 11 people. …

First place Brazil has been in cruise control thus far as they’ve won all six of their matches including a recent 2–0 win over Paraguay. Brazil leads their South American counterparts with 16 goals scored and only…

Camino has been making history! We plan to distribute 2,400 COVID-19 vaccines in collaboration with Walmart. We are an organization that strives to help community members live healthy, hopeful, and productive lives. We are honored to support the Latino community in moving forward from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Research conducted on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Latino community is what inspired us to begin administering vaccines on our campus. Dr. Keri Revens, Director of Research and Evaluation here at Camino, led that study. The study evaluated the physical and mental health of our constituents since…
